NOW ACCEPTING PREMIERE AND COMMISSION OPPORTUNITIES FROM PRESENTERS!
In celebration of the 250th anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence, this program melds together stories and perspectives from diverse viewpoints within the complex and dynamic fabric of American culture and history. Each American composer was commissioned by Akropolis and asked to express a unique component of their American experience. Works by Annika Socolofsky and Stephanie Ann Boyd were commissioned in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and tell stories of Detroit and the Great Lakes region from a community building and ecological perspective. Homage to Paradise Valley honors Detroit’s razed African American neighborhoods and brings attention to this complex and difficult history. Jennifer Higdon’s first reed quintet celebrates and helps cement the living legend’s legacy of important contributions to American music.
